A Few Interesting Links

February 2, 2011 Leave a comment Go to comments

I wanted to provide a few interesting resources for small businesses in Erie.

The first is a blog that was just started on goerie.com, which is the online presence for the Erie Times-News.  The blog is called, appropriately, Small Business Erie.  The blog, like this one, is still in its infancy, but so far has provided some good insight and references.  I hope that Sandi and Carol keep up with the blog.

Next are two websites related to the federal government and the services that it provides to small business owners.  Business.gov and sba.gov provide information on starting a business, finding financing, and other matters relevant to small business owners.

For anyone looking to open a business in Erie, SCORE, which works with the SBA, has a local Erie chapter, and provides counseling to small businesses.

Finally, Pennsylvania has its own resource for small business owners at Pa Open For Business.  It has some great startup guides.

One thing I’d like to go into in more detail in a future blog post is the necessity of hiring a good lawyer and accountant to assist with properly setting up your business.  Typically this step is a mere bullet point in a longer article about a start-up company, but without legally forming your business and registering under the proper taxing authorities, you may be in for trouble.
